Team Formation

St. John CYO attempts to provide a competative environment for all players and has established detailed policies that govern the placement of players on teams. These detailed policies can be found in the Policies and Procedures manual and are summarized here.

In the 3rd and 4th grade, CYO Cincinnati forms leagues that are based primarily on geographic area and not talent level of the players. CYO Cincinnati allows for teams to be formed based on talent level starting in the 5th grade. While not all schools form talent based teams starting in the 5th grade, St. John CYO has elected to start dividing teams by talent level in the 5th grade.

When sufficient registration at the 3rd and 4th grade allow for more than one team, an attempt is made to form teams of equal overall talent.

At the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, when only sufficient registrations for one team are submitted, that team is placed in a league that will allow it to be competative.

At the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, when sufficient registrations are submitted that will allow for mulitple teams, competative tryouts are conducted in accordance with the policies and procedures. Players of similar talent level are placed on the same team and that team is then placed in a league that will allow it to be challenged competatively.
